Youth Empowerment Through Creativity
Project Description
Youth Empowerment Through Creativity is a practical and inclusive programme for young people who want – or need – a different kind of space from traditional leisure activities.
The project is particularly aimed at young people who do not feel at home in traditional social activities. This may include those who do not thrive in organised sports, struggle with social belonging or, for various reasons, risk being excluded from communities and opportunities for personal development.
Here, they find an accessible, low-pressure space where they are welcome to come as they are.
Through creative and practical activities, young people take part in the entire process – from an initial idea to a finished product and sales. Activities may include engraving, jewellery making, epoxy resin, redesign and other forms of craft.
We focus on:
• achievement through practical work
• understanding value, time and effort
• social confidence and belonging
• communication and collaboration
• responsibility and ownership of one’s own work
The activities take place in a flexible and accessible format, including mobile workshops in the local community. Young people can create, explore and develop their skills in a safe environment, supported and guided by adults.
Our goal is not simply to provide an activity, but to offer experiences that create achievement, direction and new opportunities.
For some, this may be a first step towards employment, further activities or personal development. For others, it is about finding a place where they belong.
Whatever their starting point, everyone should have the opportunity to experience the feeling of succeeding at something.

Implementation and Results
The project was carried out over 12 weeks at Kleppestø shopping centre and Alti Askøy. Participants explored creative and practical activities in a safe environment while developing skills, collaboration and social belonging.
• 5–8 regular participants each week
• Participants aged 9–18
• More than 100 children took part during the Midtsommer community event
• New friendships and a sense of belonging developed through the activities
• Participants taught each other new skills and took responsibility in the workshop

Moving Forward
Our experience from the project period shows a clear need for safe and flexible meeting places where children and young people can participate on their own terms. We therefore want to develop the project into a more regular programme in collaboration with local organisations.
To reach more participants and ensure stable operations, the project needs support for equipment, materials, transport, suitable premises and adult mentors. Our goal is to create a long-term programme where more people can experience achievement, develop skills and find a place in the community.
